Cosmetic Dentistry: Porcelain Veneers

Cosmetic Dentistry: Porcelain Veneers

If you weren’t born with the teeth you want, or if your teeth have been chipped or otherwise damaged, a type of cosmetic dentistry called a porcelain veneer may be just what you’re looking for. This procedure can fix rough and chipped teeth and bring your smile back to its original state, or even better!

There are a number of types of veneers available, and products such as resins are used for some. But the top of the line treatment for cosmetic dentistry is the porcelain veneer. This type costs a bit more, but is longer lasting and produces a brighter shine to your teeth. They will also last much longer than resin veneers, up to 20 years versus 10 years for other types of veneers.

The procedure is fairly simple. The dentist will first create a mold of your teeth using molding material and x-rays. Once this has been done, the dentist will file down any rough areas of your teeth to permit a perfect fit with the porcelain veneer. A second mold is taken after this and the veneers are made to this mold.

The colors of the veneers will be made to match your tooth color (all teeth have a slightly off-white color) so they will blend in perfectly. Once the veneers are created, they are attached where necessary to your teeth with an extremely strong fixative. Once this is done, you are ready to go and enjoy your new smile!
