I still recall with nostalgia when we were small kids, our grandma used to peer at our teeth after we had brushed in the mornings, just to make sure if we had cleaned our teeth properly. The one with the cleanest amongst us would be given a small reward in the form of a chocolate or a favorite cake. How we would brush and clean our teeth vigorously just to impress our grandma and win the reward! In spite of good cleaning, if they didn’t look impressive enough, she would advise us to use lime rinds with salt on our teeth which was a time tested and guaranteed cleaner and whitener. No wonder our grandma had a strong and sparkling set of teeth well into her eighties! How we admired her attention to detail!

It was not uncommon to see in the Hollywood movies of the sixties and seventies, actors with natural not so gleaming teeth and it was an accepted fact. They too smiled and guffawed and were not overtly conscious of their teeth. It is only since the late eighties that having perfect, white and sparkling teeth have assumed so much importance, and rightly so, because it is your good smile that lifts your self-esteem and fetches you millions of dollars if you are in the showbiz. Sparkling and white teeth are important in our facet of life and more and more people are turning to cosmetic dentistry, looking for quick-fix solution. Gone are the days of trying age-old and traditional methods of whitening and cleaning the teeth.
